Why Tommy's Holiday Fund?

Have you ever shared space with a companion animal that brought joy to your life? What if your companion needed a life saving medical treatment, but you couldn't afford it? Having money stand in the way of saving your friend's life is gut wrenching, and it's the reason why

my friends Wes and Julie decided to start the organization Tommy's Holiday Fund (THF)

One thing I've admired about THF is how they actively promote veganism through their organization. It's far too common for organizations

that support dogs and cats to turn a blind eye to the suffering of other animals,

even blatantly, by having pig roasts or barbecues as fundraising events to help save dogs and cats!

Most animal lovers consider their companion a part of the family, able to feel joy and comfort, fear or suffering. If they were harmed in any way, you would be devastated. Yet other animals are raised to be treated as products: only seen as valuable as their flesh or by-products.

Vegans believe that all animals have rights – the right to be alive and free. Every animal wants to be happy and alive just as much as your companion at home. There is no innate difference between a dog or pig, a cat or cow. They can all experience pain equally.

This is how I got the idea for a vegan recipe zine fundraiser. I love cooking, baking, and recipe developing. I also love zines!

So I reached out to some of my vegan friends who are cookbook authors and foodies

and compiled this fun collection of tasty vegan recipes, along with some of their best companion stories.

I hope you dive in and get lots of use from these recipes, because they're awesome, and are written by some of my favorite people.
